There's nothing we can do about it except to sit tight and wait to see what happens.

It turns out that somebody from a group somewhere posted illegal content to their group. The result was that the server it ended up on was seized (by US Feds?). Unfortunately, this has meant that all groups on that server have gone doww. However, everything was fortunately backed-up, so if the worst comes to the worst, the operator of SMF for Free will copy the back-up onto another server, although it may be with another service provider, as it sounds as if there is all sorts of legal stuff going down.
