Server Migration!
Moving all sites over the next week to a new server provider. There will be own time as this occurs. Large amounts of data will need to be copied over.
Also if you have custom domains will need to repointed to the new ip address of servers. Will post the information once the sites are moved over.

Now watch all the XNC2 members who have ignored the message on the homepage of the main group hosted by SMF, exhorting them to join this alternative group, run around like headless chooks when the SMF group goes down for a few hours while it is migrated to new servers. I wonder how many of them will blame their own computers? ;D

They are migrating the groups bit by bit, not all at once.
Will we need a new URL I wonder.

howexciting wot happins now Nothing....we wait. Groups hosted by the SMF for Free server are being migrated right now. The notification was posted on the support forum at 13:42:14 today in Reply #10 of this thread.... www.smfsupport.com/support/announcements/server_migration_servers_moving_downtime-t26798.0.htmlThe Aussie group, Newstalkback-au, was moved yesterday and they were offline for about ten hours while the migration occured. They are hosted by the SMF for Free 3 server. So I guess Xtra News Community 2 @ SMF should be up and running again sometime late this evening. In the meantime, those members who joined up at this backup XNC2 group hosted by ProBoards can keep in touch. The rest will be scratching their heads and wondering what is going on.

Quiet isn't it.
What is the bet that some of those who did join forgot to add this site to their Favourites folder?
I know I did until yesterday.

What is the bet that some of those who did join forgot to add this site to their Favourites folder? What's the bet there is a rush to join this backup group once the main group hosted by SMF goes back online again! ;D

Anyway....browsers have a facility called History. Unless people have disabled it, a link to this group will have been added to History provided they have visited this group over the past few days (which I notice a large proportion of the membership have).
Mind you, some of the lost ones who did'nt Bookmark this forum probably won't think to check History in their browser.

Been and done that - been out for a drive to Kawhia - just made it home b4 the world turned wet and windy again. Off to Hamilton tomorrow - cor we havent been in for a month. Im out of toilet paper this time tomorrow - and we refuse to buy it at the local dairy. They charge $4.00 for 1.5 litre of coke. So its back to getting up at 7am off and out of here by 7.30 - run to the tip in Hamilton first - then to the house - check out whats happening there. Breakfast - then shop -then call and see mates - then Paknsave - then stop at Pirongia for a break on the way home ... no wonder we only go once a month.

It was such a nice morning that my usual 40 minutes of Nordic walking turned into double that. 3km brisk going and 1km as fast I could manage plus stretches and pressups. My legs are still tired and my upper arms are telling me about it as well. :-[The bad shoulder is moving much better though

I first started using Leki sticks back in 1992.
Initially, I only used one (although I had purchased a pair), but by 1994 I was using two nordic-style crossing high mountain passes. Even while on glaciers and wearing crampons, I was using an ice-axe in the up-hill hand and a Leki stick on the downhill side. It literally turns you into a mountain goat, especially when you are descending down steep coloirs or steep slopes covered in ice or frozen snow. A few other Kiwis in the outdoors used to think I was a bit strange using an ice-axe in combination with a walking/treking stick (although plenty of European an American tourists were doing it), but within a couple of years many Kiwis were doing the same thing.
These days, you see plenty of people using two treking sticks nordic-style in built-up areas.
